AMNIC

Who we are

The Middle Belt of Nigeria Association in Canada (MONAC) began informally over ten years ago under the name Association of Middle Belt in Nigeria (AMNIC) and was formally re-registered as MONAC in 2023. The association’s earliest efforts were humanitarian, organized in response to the 2014 kidnapping of nearly 300 Chibok school girls and ongoing communal and religious violence affecting Middle Belt communities. Founding members provided comfort and solidarity, raising funds and shipping donations to support victims and Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camps in Nigeria.
Over time, MONAC has evolved into a dual-purpose organization, continuing its humanitarian work in Nigeria while also supporting Middle-Belt Nigerians living in Canada. The association helps newcomers and students integrate into Canadian society, providing practical guidance, community connections, and programs that promote mental well-being. It also offers economic programs, financial literacy, and entrepreneurial training to help members become more established and self-sufficient in Canada. MONAC’s work is guided by values of self-determination, equality, cultural preservation, peace, and social empowerment.

MISSION

The mission of MONAC is to unite the diverse nationalities and ideologies within the Middle belt to a common and progressive sense of purpose, and to enshrine self-determination, equality, non-violence, merit, and excellence as basic tenets of the Nigerian state.

To achieve this:

- We will raise general awareness and hence positively influence the Canadian & Nigerian stakeholders on middle-belt indigenous issues.

- We will support the preservation and revival of the languages and cultures of the middle-belt tribes of Nigeria.

- We will promote Harmony, justice, equity, peace & freedom within and outside Nigeria.

- We will cater for the socio-economic welfare of MONAC members and the entire Canadian community.
